SISTERS GRIMM
Founded in Melbourne, Australia in 2006, Sisters Grimm has cultivated a unique style of queer experimental theatre renown for its accessibility. Their shows eliminate boundaries between ‘high’ and ‘low’ culture – mixing cinema with performance art, opera with internet memes – creating elaborate pastiches that occupy a space somewhere between homage and critique.
Initially creating work in found spaces – car parks, lounge rooms and backyard sheds – they have gone on to make shows in collaboration with many of Australia’s leading theatre companies, including Melbourne Theatre Company, Sydney Theatre Company, Malthouse Theatre and Belvoir.
Sisters Grimm has won six Green Room Awards, two Sydney Theatre Awards, and in 2015 was nominated for Best Play at the Australian Helpmann Awards for Calpurnia Descending.
Recent works include: Calpurnia Descending (STC/Malthouse Theatre), Summertime In The Garden Of Eden (Griffin Independent/Theatreworks), Little Mercy (STC), The Sovereign Wife (MTC), La Traviata (Belvoir), and Lilith: The Jungle Girl (MTC).
